Seeking Clarity
The Federal Government has tabled Bills in a bid to impose greater transparency on worker entitlement funds, such as industry redundancy schemes. The intent is to bar award and/or EBAs requiring contributions to union election funds. Evidence in the Heydon Royal Commission raised serious questions about the transparency of several industry funds, and funds set up by unions at arms’ length, to avoid union reporting obligations. Seeking clarity regarding how these funds spend members’ monies should not be controversial.

Andy Peppercorn Safety Award
Master Builders held interviews with the six finalists for the inaugural Andy Peppercorn Safety Award last week. All candidates are of the highest calibre and demonstrate a commitment to improving safety standards in the building and construction industry. Each one deserves to be commended for their efforts and success in raising industry safety levels, and is a champion in their own right.
