Waterside Dispute Awash with Unlawfulness
A major waterside dispute is underway in Melbourne involving the MUA and a new stevedore company that’s set up a non-union EBA. The union movement, including the CFMEU(V), are ignoring Supreme court injunctions by picketing and blockading the site. CFMEU(V) secretary, John Setka, has publicly boasted the union has “pots of gold” to support what is unlawful industrial action. This is what the merged CFMEU/MUA union promises. They ignore the rule of law and see themselves as accountable to no one.

Union Blocked from Attempting to Bend Laws
An insidious attempt by the CFMEU(V) to use federal Freedom of Information laws to gain access to ABCC officers’ personal contact details was correctly rejected by the Federal Information Commissioner. Why such an application was made in the first place raises serious questions about the intentions of the union’s leadership and is not a good look.
