Independent spotlight on Non-Conforming Building Products
Our Executive Director, Housing Director and Construction Council Chair met with Professor Russell Kenley and his team from Swinburne University to discuss the Non-Conforming Building Products Research Project that’s been commissioned by the State Government. This independent study aims to improve the evidence base relating to Non-Conforming Building Products (NCBPs).

Insurance issues over non-compliant cladding
Still on NCBPs, it’s been reported that the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors has warned its members that professional indemnity insurers were beginning to impose “onerous exclusions” to policies in relation to non-compliant cladding. This puts building owners and certifiers at risk, according to some. Media commentary has stated that building owners could find themselves without a way to claw back rectification costs due to insurer efforts to exclude liability for private certifiers over non-compliant cladding.

The Australian Building Codes Board wants to hear from you
The Australian Building Codes Board is seeking comment from stakeholders regarding the proposal to create a single set of Governing Requirements for NCC 2019. The project involves standardising Section A of Volumes One and Three and Section 1 of Volume Two. This “single set of requirements” includes mandatory instructions on how the NCC works. Feedback on the proposed Governing Requirements is now open. Please complete this short survey to provide your input. The feedback period closes September 3, 2017.

This week is Homelessness Week. The challenge for our governments is to identify the causes of homelessness and to co-ordinate strategies to deal with the problems by involving relevant stakeholders. With 10,000 estimated to be homeless each night around WA, the problem is growing.
