Congratulations GFWA
On 24 October Commerce and Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston announced the 2018 Work Safety Awards. Among the winners was GFWA, for best initiative to encourage worker engagement in safety. Master Builders congratulates GFWA on this outstanding win.

Union Rally
MUA state secretary, Chris Cain, made a clear admission of having authorised unlawful industrial action on WA ports on 18 October, in support of the union rally that day in Perth. That admission was also posted on the CFMMEU(WA) Facebook page. Given the FWO warned unions against taking unlawful industrial action on the day, the MUA will have some explaining to do.

Labor Opposition
Federal Labor Opposition IR spokesman, Brendan O’Connor, brother of national the CFMMEU national Secretary, last weekend affirmed Labor’s commitment to scrap the ABCC should Labor win office in 2019. The very obvious conflict of interest between Brendan O’Connor wanting to scrap the building industry watchdog which holds the union his brother leads accountable seems lost on the Labor opposition.
