Process of registration of Builders in WA
Building work with a value over $20 000 requires a registered builder or registration as an Owner builder for the work. To apply to become a Registered Building Contractor, you must demonstrate relevant experience and have suitable qualifications. The Building Commission provides guidance and relevant application forms required to become and renew your registration as a Registered Building Practitioner or Registered Building Contractor, here.
Roles and Responsibilities
Builders have several roles and responsibilities when working as principal contractors. Not only to their clients, but for compliance with Applicable Building Standards, Contractual obligations, and the health and safety of workers on their sites. National Construction Code and Australian Standards
National Construction code is adopted under the building regulations and provides the minimum standards for construction in Australia.

Australian Standards
Australian Standards are referenced by the NCC, Specifications for projects, and Legislation applicable to the building industry. Builders should be across the requirements of Australian Standards to ensure compliance of their completed buildings and work practices.
